REQUIP is a prescription medication designed to treat the signs and symptoms of idiopathic Parkinson’s disease. (Describing Parkinson’s disease as idiopathic means that the cause of Parkinson’s disease is not known.) REQUIP belongs to a group of medicines called dopamine agonists (pronounced DOPE-a-meen AG-oh-nists) that imitate the effect of dopamine (pronounced DOPE-a-meen) in the brain to help control movement.

REQUIP^® (ropinirole HCl) Tablets are indicated for the signs and symptoms of idiopathic Parkinson’s disease. Prescription REQUIP is not for everyone. REQUIP may cause you to fall asleep or feel very sleepy during normal activities such as driving; or to faint or feel dizzy, nauseated, or sweaty when you stand up. Tell your doctor if you experience these problems or if you drink alcohol or are taking other medicines that make you drowsy. Side effects include nausea, dizziness, drowsiness or sleepiness, headache, and dyskinesia (uncontrolled movements). Hallucinations may occur at any time during treatment. Also tell your doctor if you experience new or increased gambling, sexual, or other intense urges while taking REQUIP. REQUIP may potentiate the side effects of L-dopa. Most patients were not bothered enough to stop taking REQUIP.
