Variety of Management Options
Living with Parkinson’s disease has its own set of challenges. How do you perform daily activities with your symptoms? How do you brush your teeth or get dressed when your movements are slow and rigid? And how do you move around when you find walking difficult because of instability? Fortunately, doctors have a variety of management options available to Parkinson’s disease patients when it comes to symptom control. Some of these include:
- Medication
- Physical therapy
- Speech therapy
- Occupational therapy
- Education
- Support and counseling
Maintaining Your Activities of Daily Living
Your doctor is your best resource for devising a management program. Together, you can devise a management program that helps minimize your symptoms, so that you may maintain your activities of daily living (such as walking, writing, talking, and dressing). A doctor can also design a management program with the right combination of medication, therapy, education, support, and counseling to assist you. Follow your progress carefully to help meet your own goals.
